It was a mystery how Arin, alone, could sleep through the howling; the household muttered darkly, the King murmured something about ‘sap rising’ and stuffed his head under a pillow and the Lord Steward arose, naked, from his bed to climb the stair and remonstrate.
Rullo looked at him mournfully, ears flattened, and his head sank back onto his paws. Boromir was finally closing his eyes when it came again, the wanting stronger than Rullo’s best intentions. Boromir groaned and beside him Aragorn chortled and reached out to pat him, whispering,
“I see you and I want to howl too.”
